The museum is located in the former workshop of a master. It is interesting that the previous owner was also an artist – a famous Pole Jan Styk.
Together with other Polish colleagues he worked on the creation of the famous Racławice Panorama, which is nowadays exhibited in Wroclaw. Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytskyi was a great admirer of Novakivskyi's artwork. It was he who redeemed the house planning to use it as a museum and then transferred it for use to the artist. It is fair enough that specialists believe O. Novakivskyi was one of the best Ukrainian artists who worked in the style of late expressionism.
Every year, the day before St. Nicholas Day Metropolitan A. Sheptytskyi used to visit Novakivskyi as well as other best Ukrainian artists and often used to buy their works. That is how lots of works got into the collection of Lviv National Museum.
