Metropolitan Gardens is a little-known place even among Lviv residents. It’s situated next to the Cathedral of St. Jura. Gardenth, Cathedral, Metropolitan Chambers and adjacent territories form the St. George complex, wich is under care of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. This late-Baroque architectural ensemble placed on St. George Mount consist of sites of historical, cultural and spiritual significance, which belong to the UNESCO heritage.
In Soviet times, before the Church came out of the underground, these gardens were abandoned. Their restoration and arrangement was entrusted to the Spiritual Renaissance Foundation, so all events, activities and excursions that take place in the Metropolitan Gardens are organized to support social projects and preserve this historical heritage of the Lviv City.
