Is located in the best monument of early classicism in Lviv - the former palace of Count Volodymyr Didushytskyi.

Being a big supporter of science, he devoted much time and effort to the nature study. In 1870, the Count showed his collection for public viewing. V. Didushytskyi participated in the first World Exhibitions in Vienna (1873) and Paris (1878).

The collection was based on the zoological, paleontological, mineralogical, geological, botanical, archaeological and ethnographic departments. At that time his collection of butterflies was considered to be one of the best in the world.

The museum was finally transferred to the city community on September 10, 1880. Nowadays, after many years of the repair works, the institution offers interesting educational programs for children and adults due to the magnificent collection of wildlife and artifacts of the past.
