The Church of Sts. Olha and Elizabeth

  • Churches and Cathedrals

The Church of Sts. Olha and Elizabeth is the main panoramic object next to the train station.

Built in 1911 as a Roman Catholic church in the neo-gothic style by architect Marian Talowskyi. When you look at the building, your attention is drawn to the composition on the facade of «The Crucifixion»   by Petro Vitovych. The interior of the temple is made of white marble in art-deco style by Kazymyr Suholskyi. One of the biggest organs of Poland in interwar period was placed in the temple in 1926.

The building was damaged twice during the Ukrainian-Polish and World War II. During the Soviet period the church was used as storage. Now it is owned by the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. The highest observation deck in Lviv (80 m) is located in the building of the temple and is open for visitors.

The first stained glass iconostasis in Ukraine was installed in this church by the group of artists in 2016.
