Due to its grandiosity and greatness, the building of the university impresses everyone who sees it for the first time.
The idea of the construction appeared in 1851 when Emperor Franz Josef I was staying in the city. It was he who initiated the creation of an institution where military invalids and retired military officers could feel comfortable and live out the rest of their lives in decent conditions. The house of military invalids was designed by the Danish architect Theophil Edvard Hansen according to the model of the Vienna Arsenal.
It is built in Neo-Romanesque style using multi-colored bricks, combination of which created yellow and red stripes on the facade. In the walls, there are air ducts connected to the fireplaces and it allows heating as well as maintaining the same temperature in the whole building.
